In Bayreuth, the musical center of the world, the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists was founded by Herbert Barth in 1950, under the patronage of Jean Sibelius.
Back then, after the terrors of World War II, the objective was to promote new international encounters, to enable a forum for dialogue between young people from different political and social backgrounds and to create a place for intense artistic work. Up to the present day, about 25,000 young people from 80 nations have come to Bayreuth to work together and learn from and with each other on this “rehearsal stage for the youth of this world“ as described by author Martin Gregor-Dellin.
The Festival produces culture! This cultural product consists of various spheres of activity. International youth work: The Festival serves as a bridge between cultures and continents. The work focus of the people in charge is on facilitating international encounters and intercultural communication.

Our Boosters' Association
Since 2007, the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists’ Booster Association has been in existence. It strives to win friends and supporters for the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists. Thus, in line with the Festival’s ideals, it renders financial support for art and culture, international youth work and international understanding. It contributes to the perpetuation of the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists by providing a base for both medium and long-term projects. Accordingly, any number of events can be arranged exclusively for Festival supporters. It follows then, that seminars, which proved to be very successful, on the topic of fundraising, were organized and placed last year into the Festival’s catalogue. Likewise, thanks to the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists Boosters’ Association a newly designed Festival internet website came into existence. Since then, young artists, trainees and young professionals can conveniently apply directly through the internet. This is especially important for applicants from countries where there isn’t a well established postal system.
Furthermore, by awarding scholarships and sponsorships, the association makes Festival participation possible for numerous young artists.
Thus, the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists Boosters’ Association makes a valuable contribution to the preservation of cultural diversity and artistic quality, far beyond the borders of Bayreuth. The Association’s support ideally suits the Festival by increasing its image and degree of popularity. Of course, the transparent handling of donations and subsidies is guaranteed.
Thanks to the Association’s generous support, not only on a financial level, but also thru ideas and direction, many new projects and points-of-emphasis can be pursued by the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists.

Michael Luetzelberger
